Study may shed new light on areas not previously thought to have arsenic issues in the groundwater

A recent study by the U.S. Geological Survey and the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health may shed new light on areas not previously thought to have arsenic issues in the groundwater. Some 2.1 million Americans on domestic water wells may be at risk of harmful exposure to arsenic based on a national-scale predictive model detailed in the study, which shows areas potentially affected by arsenic levels greater than 10 parts per billion — the federally established maximum contaminant level. The study’s top 10 states for people at risk for harmful arsenic exposure based on the size of the at-risk population are: Michigan, 192,747Ohio, 189,191Indiana, 150,858North Carolina, 119,633California, 115,823Maine, 102,452Texas, 95,455Pennsylvania, 80,729Minnesota, 80,353Wisconsin, 72,670.The study abstract states: “Arsenic concentrations from 20,450 domestic wells in the U.S. were used to develop a logistic regression model of the probability of having arsenic >10 micrograms per liter (“high arsenic”) which is presented at...

Helping us develop new incinerator types to meet changing needs

Back in early July we announced a major recruitment drive as we looked to strengthen our team and our position as the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of waste incineration plant, plus pet cremation and human cremation technology.  With an expanding range of incinerator types it was vital that we sought out the best specialists available to retain our global leadership.  We have already reported the arrival of a number of specialist staff and this week we are delighted to confirm the arrival of Thomas Brown, our new Mechanical Design Engineer. Thomas’s route to this important new role within our design team has been very interesting and it demonstrates both his depth of experience as well as his determination, drive and ambition. Thomas began his career ‘on the tools’ and spent 10-years as a welder-fabricator where he worked with many specialist materials and techniques.  Thomas’s ambitions, however, were not simply...
